TEchnical DIvision LTD for National Carrier BULGARIA AIR

Welcome back with Technical Division LTD story of the month!

Bulgarian National Airline “Bulgaria Air” called in order to perform PRE-Purchase inspection of Two CFM56-5B Engines.
Owner of the Engines (highly respected and one of the largest commercial aviation financing and leasing company) agreed to provide full history and documentation of the Engines that were about to be inspected without hesitations.
One of the engines passed successfuly our ‘nose to tail’ full borescope inspection. Second engine was also used condition with light signs of normal exploatation wear and tear.
-> End of the day , at the very last Module Low Pressure Turbine ,latest Stage #4 Vane was found with out of AMM inservice limits criterions defect. You can imagine both surprise of MRO and Owner Technical Rep and the upcoming internal cooperation storm.
Luckily we was fully behind with our statement that such defect should be declared to SNECMA – CFM OEM, and based on previous exprience this defect is 50/50 chances of serviceability statement.
Next day OEM-Snecma Statement which our fellow colleagues from BGAir Engineering initiated declared that Engine – out of serviceable limits for Line maintenance and needs shop visit before next engine run.

* BSI pre-purchase inspections aren’t only burocracy or just tickbox procedue. Our job is essential for Airworthiness of an aircraft and the fitness of an aircraft for flight in all conditions for which it has been designed, and to which it may therefore be exposed.
